Why Scan Documents to PDF?

💡 Photo Tips: Shoot in good natural light near a window. Avoid shadows across the document. Hold the phone directly above the page (not at an angle) for the least distortion. Clean the camera lens first.

Method 2: Dedicated Scanner

Flatbed scanners produce the highest quality scans — especially for photos, artwork, or documents where detail matters. Set your scanner software to output PDF directly, or scan to TIFF/JPG at 300 DPI and convert using PDFMagik's JPG to PDF tool.

For documents only (not photos), 200 DPI is sufficient and produces much smaller file sizes than 300 or 600 DPI.

Method 3: Mobile Scanning Apps

• iOS: Use the built-in Notes app (tap the camera icon → Scan Documents) or Files app. Both produce good quality PDFs.
• Android: Google Drive has a built-in scanner — tap the + button → Scan.
• Microsoft Lens: Available on both platforms, excellent at perspective correction and document enhancement.

Getting the Best Scan Quality

• Lighting: Even, bright lighting without shadows. Natural daylight is best.
• Background: Place document on a dark or contrasting surface so the edges are visible for automatic cropping.
• Flat surface: Crumpled or curved pages scan poorly — flatten them first.
• Multiple pages: Photograph each page separately, then combine using PDFMagik's Image to PDF tool.
• Resolution: For text-only documents, standard phone camera quality is more than sufficient.
